Coaching

Coachees

I provide one-on-one coaching to leaders at all levels of organizations from first-time managers to executives to board members.

Approach

Coaching is all about the person I am working with. I am focused entirely on being helpful to them. The agenda is theirs. What are they trying to achieve? What are their strengths? Where are they getting stuck? How would they like to grow? What would they like to change about how they are leading? What do they need to both lead and be well themselves? I provide support by offering questions to help the person consider different perspectives and possibilities, feedback to help them understand how they are being perceived, and affirmation to remind them of their value.

Rhythm & Flow

A typical flow for a coaching engagement looks like:

  • Beginning. We start with getting to know one another. I learn about who they are and what they are looking for from coaching?

  • Assessment. Sometimes we decide that it would be helpful for the person I am coaching to have some data to work with so that our work together is not only informed by our individual perspectives but also those of others. That data could come from a 360 or from some kind of assessment tool such as Gallup’s CliftonStrengths.

  • Sessions. We will then get into a rhythm of meeting regularly. Either weekly, every other week, or every three weeks for 1-2 hours each. Some find more frequent shorter sessions more helpful, others find less frequent longer sessions more helpful. A typical coaching engagement would include 8-12 sessions depending on their length and frequency.

  • Closing. We finish our work together with a closing session to celebrate success and progress, reflect on the work and what was most useful, and consider the future.
